The Old Republic

Something I’ve been watching with some interest across the course of the last year or so has been the developments of SWTOR, or Star Wars: The Old Republic. Which is the upcoming MMORPG from Bioware, set several thousand years before the events of the original Star Wars films, and several hundred years after the Knights of the Old Republic game – one of the finest Star Wars games.

All eight classes have now been announced for the game, take a peek. More

Left 4 Dead 2 Review

Zombies appear to be a staple in gaming. From way back in the days of DOOM; the zombie has plagued first person shooters as rampantly as the disease/demonic infestation that creates them. A year ago, Valve released Left 4 Dead, their survival horror game which pitted a group of four survivors against hordes of ‘infected’. A year later, and to much criticism from the normally loyal Valve fanbase, they released Left 4 Dead 2. More

Batman: Arkham Asylum Review

As an avid gamer, I try to pace games out so they last me a while. It’s a rare occassion for me to sit down on a game’s release day and hammer through it in the space of the day. The last time I did this was Halo 3. Arkham Asylum is another.

So, lets start from the top! More

Prototype Review

I looked forward to Prototype the moment I first saw the preview trailers for it, whenever that was. A mutant with the ability to shift his body into all sorts of weaponry whilst leaping over tall buildings and running up walls appealed to me. Prototype did not fail to deliver. More

Bioshock 2 First Look

Bioshock. One of the massive hit games of recent years, following in the footsteps of it’s predecessors, System Shock 1 & 2. And now, the good folks at 2K games are giving us another run through the once underwater paradise now underwater death trap that is Rapture.

What’s been disclosed about this release? Well. Lets take a look. More

Mass Effect 2 Teaser

Just when I was mumbling to myself that there was no sign of Mass Effect 2 (amongst other game sequels) this year, lo and behold BioWare goes and releases a teaser trailer and site for the second part of their space opera trilogy. It is a teaser of the most teasing kind, so don’t expect to actually glean much useful from it. As always, video and links after the jump. More

“You are always on my Overmind.”

On this special/overblown day it seems Blizzard aren’t immune from a cheesy pun or three, providing three new StarCraft II wallpapers to celebrate. More

Reimagined Game Covers

Being almost equal parts design geek as gaming geek, running across this on Kotaku the other day was a little too perfectly up my street to not share on SGN.

The story behind these beautiful covers is a simple premise – game boxart design for the most part, leaves a lot to be desired. So Olly Moss decided to reimagine what some classic game covers would look like borrowing from the richer heritage of book cover design. When Kotaku reported on his designs, more folks decided to join in on the reimagining, take a peek at some of my favourites. More

Tomb Raider Underworld

The latest game in the long running archaeology (well in theory… it’s not quite Time Team) series. Though lets face it, it’s better known for the heroine, her assets and somewhat spray painted on outfits. Personally I loved it, although it felt rather short. Don’t go expecting it to change the genre, everything you would expect is still in there. For better or worse depending on whether you’re a fan of the series. More
